Mexican feast at Perron

After Dani and I decided to start our foodie Instagram account, we figured we should kick it off in style at Perron in Illovo and invite a bunch of friends. Hungover and tired (we both had shenanigans the night before) we met up at the trendy Illovo restaurant, which at that time was only open for 3 months yet fully booked weeks in advance. The wait was worth it and we had an excellent Saturday out.

The cool thing with Mexican food is that as usually people with a variety of food preferences can happily eat and be merry. You can choose from tapas plates or bigger main meals. They have a great list of cocktails and the one we really enjoyed was the jalapeno margarita. Perfect to shock your hangover away. The dish that surprised me most was the bean and banana empanadas. DAMN they were delicious and I’m not usually a fan of warm banana but somehow this combination just works.

If you’re looking for Tex-Mex cuisine, then this is not the place for you. Yes everybody loves a good plate of nachos, but you can make those at home. Expect funky decor, good service and an exciting menu. A little birdy also told us that a new branch will be opening in Bryanston this month and we will definitely check it out.
